New PhD positions coming in early 2023
The Swedish Research Council has decided on financing a new doctoral school ReSource in information studies with three new paid doctoral student positions placed at Uppsala University. The positions will be announced in early 2023.

At the Department of ALM (Archival Studies, Library and Information Studies, Museum and Cultural Heritage Studies) with starting date January 1, 2023 or as agreed.
The Department of ALM (Archival Studies, Information Studies and Museum- and Cultural Heritage Studies) offers second-cycle education in the Master’s Programme in Archival Studies, Information Studies and Museum- and Cultural Heritage Studies and in the Master's Programme in Digital Humanities. The department also conducts doctoral-level education in Information Studies. The department currently has about twenty teachers and researchers and seven doctoral students. The department also includes the Centre for Digital Humanities Uppsala (CDHU), which offers support to researchers at Uppsala University in data management, data storage and digital methods, and digital tools.

The Centre for Digital Humanities Uppsala (CDHU) has been awarded financial support for research infrastructure through Vetenskapsrådet (the Swedish Research Council) Grant for Research Infrastructure of National Interest.

Call for papers Tidskrift för ABM - Deadline extended to 8/10
Tidskrift för ABM (TABM) is an e-journal with the aim of publishing research, reviews, travelogues and notes in the fields of digital humanities and archival, library and museum studies.We publish in Swedish and English and articles undergo double-blind peer review. The call for papers is out now, with an extended deadline of 8 October 2021.

Volume 5 issue 1 is the ‘thickest’ number yet, with 99 pages of content from within our department, other departments within the university as well as from colleagues from other institutions. There is a great variety of topics, and a good amount of Digital Humanities related themes.

science fiction and art, for decades. From Isaac Asimov’s Three Laws of Robotics, which, in a
dystopian universe of biological and synthetic beings, were intended to protect humans
from evil robots, to C-3PO and R2-D2 thwarting the Empire in Star Wars. AI is currently
more than mere science fiction. Its broader and potentially more significant effects for
humanity are yet to be researched and explored. -

Instutionen för ABM utlyser en tjänst som lektor i Digital humaniora
Institutionen för ABM är vidare, på initiativ från Historisk-filosofiska fakulteten, värd för ett uppbyggnadsarbete av DH som ett nytt fält för fakultets- och områdesövergripande samarbeten inom forskning, utbildning och infrastruktur vid Uppsala universitet. För närvarande är denna satsning inne i ett expansivt skede, bland annat genom en planerad centrumbildning för forskningssamarbeten och infrastrukturellt stöd inom DH. Det är till denna satsning som den aktuella tjänsten är knuten.

Sveriges folkbibliotek får ta allt större ansvar för viktiga samhällsutmaningar – samtidigt är forskning och utbildning inom biblioteksområdet underfinansierat och riskerar på sikt tappa kvalitet. Det konstaterar forskare vid fem svenska lärosäten i en gemensam rapport, framtagen som en del i arbetet med en nationell biblioteksstrategi.
