Archives - Libraries - Museums

ALM is an acronym for archives, libraries and museums - or for Archival science, Library & information science, and Museum & heritage studies.

The common core of the ALM disciplines is the study of information processes: acquiring, selecting, arranging, describing, preserving, and communicating different kinds of information and cultural heritage.

There are differences between the practical work at archives, libraries and museums, but also significant overlaps. Cooperation is developing, especially in digital preservation and access. There are also many points of contact between archival science, library & information science, and museum & heritage studies as research disciplines. In our education we focus both similarities and divergences.

The department of ALM offers a two year master’s programme in Archive, Library and Museum Studies. The teaching language is Swedish.
